How to make your website compliant and pass the Cookiebot validation service?

STEPS.

Step 1.

Remove the javascript code, from anywhere else, of any service (like Google Analytics) that serves cookies on your website.
Most of the times the Google Analytics code has been placed in the index.php of your template, or in a system plugin, or in the template options.

Step 2.

Install the Cookies Notification Bar Joomla! Plugin.

Step 3.

Navigate to the plugin settings.
Click to the tab “Advanced Settings”, and scroll down to the section “Block Cookies Functionality”.

  • Choose “Yes” to the parameter: “Block Cookies Functionality”.
  • Choose “No” to the parameter: “Allow Session Cookies”.

Step 4.

Navigate to the parameter section “Categories of Cookies”.
Find the “Analytical Cookies” category and change the value of the “Checked by Default” select field to “No (Allow change by User)”, instead of “Yes (Allow change by User)”.

Step 5.

Navigate to the parameter section “Block Cookies by blocking their Javascript Code”.
Select the category “Analytical Cookies” and enter the google analytics javascript code in the text field to the right.

More details about how to use the “Block Cookies functionality”, you can read in this useful guide “How to block cookies“.

CONCLUSION.

That’s all. Now you can test again your website with Cookiebot service.
If you have followed all the steps correctly and you have removed the javascript code (only for services that uses cookies) from anywhere else and you have added the Javascript code only in the plugin settings, then your website will be GDPR compliant and pass the Cookiebot validation service.
